I will be frank, I liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.

Just a few clicks and a client can put an order with a freelancer based on a specific set of deliverables.

Sure, but it comes at a price. A big one.

That is just one the very few freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and outright blackmail vendors any way they like.

Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.

In this post, I wish to talk about a new bad experience as a vendor on Fiverr, and why I decided to give up on the platform altogether.

How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation

While I've been using Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a little while, this specific experience relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.

(I've been guiding her building up a reputable account, and how to go above and beyond with every last order. Everything mentioned is that her doing, I'm only an observer.)

In cases like this, she had just gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which seemed to be just like any other... or so we thought.

The order was fulfilled in great time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus logo concept in addition to the source file (which is usually a part of the pricier package).

The client"loved" one of the concepts and so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the gig description. Soon afterwards, things got a little bizarre.

The customer came back asking for a social networking kit to decide on the logo, something which is obviously not offered as part of her post.

In my advice, my girlfriend chose to provide the additional work, despite not getting paid any extra for it.

After that, the customer responded with much more demands and a few modifications to the social media files.

At this time, she consented enough was enough.

Despite every attempt to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.

That is when the customer went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr reputation hostage.)

While she took some time to ponder a reply and reach out to Fiverr service for assistance, the client did eventually go ahead and leave a 1 star review.

Presumably this was to demonstrate her he/she was Working at Fiverr: 87 Reviews Indeed.co.in not kidding.

Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's response to the service question, the client paid an extra $10 to your social networking kit.

Of course, the payment was accompanied by yet another threat.

At this point, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so I could repeatedly punch them in the face.

But, in the moment, I had hope that Fiverr support could step in and save my girlfriend from that PITA client.

When the answer came from Fiverr service, they told her they could All the Product Reviews Money Can Buy - The New York Times not induce the buyer to take the purchase.

Alright, that is reasonable enough. (Even though the purchaser accepted it.)

They also suggested drawing up a list for the buyer to demonstrate the work has been completed in accordance with the gig requirements.

My girlfriend communicated in her initial email that the client was trying to extort her for free work outside the agreed conditions, by making a negative inspection if she did not comply.

Needless to say, it was not really about the job, it was all about seeking protection in an abusive client who was blatantly pushing his luck.

Their answer didn't offer either of us any confidence that Fiverr actually understood , and even at this point we felt as though they did not wish to get involved.

At the same time, she also responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to work together unless the feedback has been changed/removed.

(Again, this will be comments that has been clearly and intentionally left to bully her to supplying work out the agreed conditions )

An honest request by anyones standards, correct?

Instead of acknowledge what the buyer had completed until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.

Turns out, she had been the only breaking all of the rules.

Because she had asked the client to modify their opinions, she was no more eligible for some help from Fiverr assistance.

It's possible to imagine how we both felt studying this.

Everything that the purchaser had done this article and said before her very last message was now being swept under the carpet -- like never happened in any way.

Fiverr basically decided to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain on an account she'd worked so tough to accumulate.

If everything that occurred was not troubling enough, it is knowing that this individual is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers with no sprinkling of repercussion.

And believe me, there are plenty of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.

But as all this was occurring, I did a little research to find out if some other sellers went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.

Quite quickly, I found a variety of almost equal cases on the Fiverr forum outdated years back. (that's correct, decades.)

This is obviously something that's been going on for quite a while and it all stems from giving buyers too much power over sellers.

When there's one thing I've learned about Fiverr, it is that clients are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.

Regardless of how long that you put into a project, or how hard you worked on it, or maybe how long you managed communication in a dispute, if it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.

Even when it's a very clear cut case in your favour, there's still every chance the customer will come out at the top. It takes it one little thing that you"did no way" in accordance with their terms of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored

Looking at the evidence, it is obvious to me Fiverr is well aware of what's happening, yet is still inclined to settle back and let it happen.

If you're a decision maker in Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reevaluate your existing support processes for freelancers.

It's not right that someone can put all that time and effort into building up an account and also over-delivering at every conceivable chance, only to be taken down from the very people you rely on to protect you.

Look, I do not want to abandon Fiverr. I don't wish to be telling people to avoid your platform.

But after everything that's happened, you haven't left me any choice.

Until something is done to guard freelancers from this kind of abuse, I will continue to spread this article and do anything I could to stop others from falling victim to a one-sided support staff.

The next you actually do something about it and give freelancers a way to fight back, I will be happy to update the post.
